Nova CIS

Nova CIS provides a simple payroll system for genuine self-employed subcontractors who work in the construction sector. Subcontractors must either have registered or be eligible to register for the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) with HM Revenue and Customs.

If you are not already self-employed, then you will need to register with HMRC either online or by calling the HMRC self-employed Helpline on 0845 915 4515. They will give you a Unique Tax Reference (UTR).

Once you have become registered as self-employed, you then need to register with the CIS by telephoning 0845 366 7899. HMRC will require your sole trader name and your UTR number.

You can now register with Nova CIS!

The benefits of using Nova are:

  • The flexibility of being self-employed so you can negotiate your own rates.
  • The ability to offset allowable business expenses that are incurred wholly and exclusively for work purposes. Expenses include:
    • Travel to and from work as long as you are working at a temporary workplace
    • Subsistence
    • Accommodation when staying away from home
    • Work-related tools and clothing
  • Public Liability Insurance
  • Personal Accident Insurance

Registering with Nova CIS is a simple process and our registration team can explain all the aspects of working with us in more detail.

If you already have a Nova Reference Number (beginning "61"), you can register for an online account.
